From the Principal
Hello Families
Welcome back to Term 3. We have a great start to the term, with both students and staff getting straight into learning. It was lovely to see all our students on the first day looking excited and happy to return to school and everyone looked very spiffy in their uniform.
Staffing: We welcome some new staff members this term. Mr Cameron Lester will be taking PE two days per week (Thursdays/Fridays) and Mr Jayden Thornton will be working in 2MT two days per week (Thursdays/Fridays). Mr Giani Hremevuic joins our staff for one day per week on Wednesdays taking students in Grades 3/4 for Garden and Miss Jess Rainbow will be working with our Early Years students on Tuesdays to plant a Sensory Garden. Our students have already shown their enthusiasm in the Garden this week and they are looking forward to working with our new staff members.
Parking: Thank you to all our families who have supported the changes to parking arrangements at the beginning and end of the school day. During this term, a new crossing will be painted and the existing one repainted to ensure easy visibility and safety for all our students and their families. A low fence and path will also be installed along the grass verge adjacent to the oval to facilitate easy access to those students and families who walk to and from school. A reminder to parents to be mindful of all road markings and signage in the car park to ensure the safety of our students.
Caps: Many of our students have special caps that they like to wear to school. A reminder that caps are only to be worn to and from school and then packed away in school bags. Every student has a school hat to wear during play times as part of our uniform. Students have been reminded of our rule around caps on Tuesday this week. Please remind your child of this expectation if they have a cap they like to wear to school. Thank you for your support.
FAST Program: We would like to invite all families to be part of the FAST program at Fairview Primary in 2022. FAST stands for Families and Schools Together. The FAST® Program brings multiple families together once a week in dynamic after-school gatherings. In each 2.5-hour session, a trained FAST Team guides families through a structured agenda of evidence-based activities that support positive parenting skills and reduce family stress while encouraging family bonding.
Each FAST Session includes group activities as well as one-on-one parent-child interaction and parent group time. FAST activities are educational, fun, and emotionally rewarding for all participants. The FAST Cycle ends with a Graduation Ceremony, a congratulatory and often emotional celebration of the stronger family bonds and community support achieved by the group.
Fairview’s FAST program is scheduled to begin in Week 3 of this term. Please ring the School Office to register your interest, then someone from the FAST program will contact you with more information.
Upcoming Events: We have many upcoming events this term. Please see information further on in this Newsletter and keep an eye on our social media platforms for more information about these events.
As always, please do not hesitate to contact me with any concerns, questions or ideas to share.
Best wishes,
Michelle Waldock
Acting Principal
Covid-19 Update
Welcome back to school for the start of Term 3!
The health and safety of students and staff has, and always will be, our top priority. Our Term 3 approach to manage COVID-19 is outlined in our COVID-safe schools operational plan. The Plan builds on everything we’ve learnt since the start of the pandemic.
The Department of Education (DoE) has worked closely with Public Health to ensure schools continue to be safe places for learners. Many COVID-safe measures that you are familiar with continue to be in place to limit the impact of COVID-19 in our schools.
With increased COVID-19 cases in our community leading into Term 3, our staff and visitors are strongly recommended to wear face masks when indoors, or if they are unable to physically distance. Wearing a face mask is not a requirement for students, however it is strongly recommended by Public Health indoors as well as when they cannot physically distance. Students will be supported to wear masks by their school when they choose to.
Face masks and rapid antigen tests continue to be readily available for students and staff at all Tasmanian Government schools.
It is common to see increased illness at this time of year, so it remains important that we all continue to practise our COVID safe behaviours, stay at home if unwell and get tested.
As always, when your child is well, the best place for them to be is at school learning with their friends and teachers.
We will need to continue to be flexible as some elements of our plan may change during the Term. We will continually monitor the situation, make changes as necessary and keep school communities informed.

1/2 Rush have been working like busy little bumblebee’s learning about what an onomatopoeia is ( a word that sounds like the noise it describes) and using them in our writing.
Nurse Beck - Dental Week
This year let’s use for Dental Health Week (1-7 August) as a timely reminder to love our chompers and make a DENTIST appointment.
The public dentist is FREE to all children under 18 years (if you have a Medicare Card) and have a clinic right here in New Norfolk. Read more about Dental Health Service for Babies, Children and Teens or call 1300 011 013 to make an appointment.
Contact the school nurse BECK on Wednesdays if you would like to talk to her about your child’s teeth.
5 ways to love your teeth!
1) Take your teeth on a date to the dentist
You may not have been for a little while or it may be time for your regular check-up, take this as your reminder to take your teeth on a date and see your dentist! Don’t wait till you are in pain go early. It is recommended all children see the dentist before they start school.
2) Care for your teeth by brushing twice every day
Brush once in the morning and once at night. At night, brushing is best done last thing before bed and no food or drinks to be had after.
3) Floss – clean those gaps
Cleaning between your teeth helps to remove bacteria and food that build up during the day. Not cleaning these spaces can cause gums to become inflamed and sometimes tooth decay can develop.
4) Treat your teeth to healthy foods and drinks
Lay off the juice, soft drinks and the energy drinks. The World Health Organization recommends adults have 6 or less teaspoons (24 grams) of sugar each day. One can of coke has over 10 teaspoons. Even sugar free drinks have acid within them that cause tooth erosion. Choose to drink water during the day and if having a sweet treat, do so together with a main meal instead of snacking on the treat between meals.
5) Show your teeth love by using them for their intended purpose
Teeth are made to chew and smile. They are not made for opening bottles, or packets. These habits can increase the risk of breaking or cracking teeth. Also use a mouthguard when playing sport.
For more information and tips on caring for your teeth and mouth, check out the Australian Dental Association’s website www.teeth.org.au.
