Newsletter - 14th June 2022
From the Principal
Hello Families
Only four weeks until the end of term! Many of our staff and students have been unwell over the past weeks. Thank you to all those families who let the school know if their child will be away because they are unwell (or for other reasons). The more days a child can attend school, the more they learn. If you are having difficulties getting your child or children to school, or if they have been unwell for a long period of time, please let us know as there are many ways we can offer support.
COVID Update: With the easing of restrictions, we can now allow families on site to support their children at school events such as Assemblies. Our next Assembly is at 9am on Tuesday 28th June. We look forward to welcoming families at future school events.
Reports: Mid-year reports will be sent home to families on Friday 1st July. Reports will look different this year than in previous years. More information about this will be in the next newsletter. Parent-Teacher Interviews will be held from Monday 4th July to Thursday 7th July. A reminder that if you have any queries about your child’s learning progress at any time throughout the year, please contact your child’s class teacher.
Parking: With the cold weather, many families are coming to school each day to drop off and pick up their children. New signs have been erected in the North Crescent car park to help ease parking congestion at drop off and pick up times. Please follow the directions on all signs in the car park for everyone’s safety. Thank you for your support with this.
As always, I am open to any feedback from our school community – please do not hesitate to contact me with any queries, concerns or ideas to share.
With best wishes,
Michelle Waldock
Acting Principal

School Wide Positive Behaviour Support
At Fairview Primary school we are committed to implementing the SWPBS framework which supports the social and academic learning of all students. Our School Expectations are Safety, Together, Achievement and Respect. This Term we have been focussing on Together with many classes organising explicit lessons around this.
Classes have also continued working with the Zones of Regulation to help identify student emotions and strategies to support their needs when they are in a particular Zone.
5/6 Blackley
We have been very busy in 5/6 Blackley.
In Science we have been looking at the solar system, we are learning about the planets. We created models representing how the Sun, Moon and Earth all work together.
We have been enjoying story writing, learning about the writing process and publishing our stories on the computer.
We have been looking at angles. We wrote our names and identified the different type of angles we could see then used a protractor to measure them.
We are creating these crazy creatures using our name and symmetry.
We are creating our word walls in our Science and HASS units. We have been creating posters with our own definitions and pictures to help our class understand the words.
3/4 Hills/Bromell
Students in 3/4 Hills/Bromell have helped Mrs Bromell paint the Street Library.
Inter-Primary Cross Country
Congratulations to all students who participated at the Inter-Primary Cross Country on Tuesday 7th June. All students did a fantastic job!
Past Student Success
Tahlia was selected for the Australian Women's youth Futsal team after playing in the Hobart high school titles for New Norfolk High School in Year 10.
Tahlia and two other NNHS Year 10 students were selected to play in the Under 16 girls, Tasmanian side with students from various other schools from around Tasmania in Brisbane in October 2019.
From this, Tahlia was the only Tasmanian selected to represent Australia in the USA in July 2020. Covid-19 impacted Australia and International Borders were closed, postponing the trip. The team did get to have a meet in Perth, Western Australia in July 2021 to compensate for not being able to travel outside of Australia. Here they had a strict training regime and games against WA representative teams until Covid-19 struck again and their trip was cut in half forcing the players quickly back home to their individual states.
Now International borders are open, their flights are finally booked for July 12-24 2022. There have been a few destination changes for the tour trying to overcome events happening across the globe but the tour has ended up back in the USA where it was originally planned for. They will be competing in the USA Nationals and playing against various USA teams to help them in their training to the lead up to the Nationals. They will also have some exciting opportunities for sight seeing at some renowned USA hotspots like the Golden Gate Bridge, Pier 39 and shopping in Silicon Valley.
