Principal's Address
Hello Families
Halfway through Term 2 already! It is great to see our students coming to school appropriately dressed in their winter coats, beanies and gloves to brave the cold. Thank you to all those families who make sure their child is dressed in their uniform and clothes that are appropriate for the colder weather.
Cybersafety in Grade 5/6: Two Senior Constables from Tasmania Police hosted sessions for our Grade 5/6 students around cybersafety in social media settings. The police constables reminded students that social media apps, like Snapchat, Instagram and Tik Tok can be dangerous for young people unless carefully monitored by the adults in their households. More police personnel will be visiting later in the year to hold more sessions for our older students.
Student Leaders: Our Student Leaders meet on Friday afternoons and have shared many big ideas for what they, and all our students, would like to see happening around the school. Two of our Student Leaders have written a report detailing some of their ideas. Please see their report later in this Newsletter.
Dogs on School Grounds: We have had some families bringing their furry family members to school at pick up time. Please be aware that it is School and Departmental policy that no dogs are allowed on school grounds during school days/times. We are responsible for all students and staff in our care during school hours and we need to ensure everyone’s safety. Thank you for your support with this.
Uniform Stall: We have many second-hand uniform items in excellent condition at school. There will be an opportunity to purchase second-hand uniform this Thursday 2nd June at 2.15 in the School Hall. Items range in price from $2 to $15. Come along and stock up! 😊
Smoking in School car parks: There have been reports of adults smoking in the school car parks at pick up time in the afternoons. Just a reminder that smoking on school property, including car parks, is illegal. Police will be contacted if smoking is witnessed on school property.
As always, I am open to any feedback from our school community – please do not hesitate to contact me with any queries, concerns or ideas to share.
With best wishes,
Michelle Waldock

Student Leader Report - Abby & Isla
First things first, the ball wall. We are planning to paint it a nice navy blue, with the schools logo and the four stars on the side facing the carpark, and a target on the other.
In other news the school got granted $1000 to spend on plants, that will be going in our newly improved sensory garden. This will bring more life and colour to the area.
Also, one of the leaders suggested that we have a once a term clean up. The leaders will take a class around the school to pick up rubbish and to teach them to not litter.
Last but not least, there will be a footy colours day to raise money for end of year activities. The date hasn’t been finalised, but a notice will go out with more information. It will be a gold coin donation.
North Crescent Carpark
The North Crescent carpark can become very congested during the drop off & pick up times, especially around the turning circle.
It is requested that you enter the carpark slowly and carefully and adhere to the carpark rules. There is to be no parking in the turning circle car spots, and no parking along the left-hand side as you enter the carpark on the grass.
Sensory Garden Project
Fairview Primary School has been selected as a recipient for the 2022 Woolworths Junior Landcare Grant. The School Association have also matched this contribution which will be used to create a Native Plant Sensory Experience in the Sensory Garden. Classes across the school have started undertaking research into Australian/Tasmanian Native Sensory Plants and will be planning out the design of the garden.
New Canteen Menu & Additional Day
From Week 7 (15 June) the Canteen will now be open on a Wednesday, Thursday & Friday. Out of the families that voted, 57% voted for Wednesday as the additional day.
A new menu will also be in place from this date with some new homemade lunch options.
Giveaway of small chairs & tables
We have a surplus of smaller sized chairs & tables that we would like to offer to Fairview Parents/Carers. The items will be set up next to the north crescent turning circle on Tuesday 7 June from 10:00am – 2:00pm. The items will best suit children aged 4 years – 6 years.
If you can’t make this collection, and would like to organise another time to collect please contact the School Business Manager, Chloe Bonnitcha on 6261 7999.
Subway Lunches
We have had an extroadinary response to our Subway orders. Subway will be delivered in time for lunch.
