Principal Report
Dear Fairview community,
Term 3 has been a really great term for Academic and Social and Emotional learning at Fairview. We have had great outcomes with reading, attendance and positive behaviour. It is really important that we continue this until the end of the term.
The last few weeks have seen some great learning opportunities with Fire Safety sessions being run across the school and High School transition activities being held for our grade 6 students. I really enjoyed seeing the student work and community connection in our open classroom afternoon last Tuesday. The Art Show demonstrated the amazing creative work our students can do.
Tomorrow we have a School Association Bingo Night on Saturday 20 September and a Footy Colours Day on the last day of term.
Next term we have two new staff members joining us with Ms Hilder taking on the kinder class and Launching into Learning, whilst Ms Burdon is on long service leave, and Mr Hutley joining us mainly to support across our 5/6 classes.
Please be aware that Term 4 requires students to wear sun safe hats during outside play.
Let’s finish the term strong and have a great break over the September holidays.
David
Every School Day Matters New Campaign
Every School Day Matters new campaign
With attendance a key focus for our schools, it was great to see the launch of the new DECYP ‘Every School Day Matters campaign.’ The campaign focuses on all the positive moments (big and small) that can happen in a school day.
We’re excited to welcome former Richmond Football Club champion Jack Riewoldt as a key part of this campaign. A passionate Tasmanian, Jack is very keen to encourage our learners to seize the great moments at school. The look on some of the students’ faces when he turned up at a few of our sites as part of the filming was also worth its weight in gold!
The campaign will be shared on TV, social media, and online and includes a new website with helpful tips and tools for schools, parents, and students to support regular attendance. There are also resources for schools to promote positive attendance with their local school community.
For those who haven’t seen the ad yet, please click the first link below. It is a must watch!

Prep Hammer
Social and emotional learning is important for all children. In Prep Hammer we have been looking at emotions and events that link to them. We have also been working really hard to fill each other’s buckets and ensure our peers feel good about themselves and confident. Over the last week each child has successfully filled another child’s bucket. We can see who is filling buckets at our social and emotional learning display at the front of our classroom.

2 Rush
This year our Fairview School Choir of 54 students went across to Corumbene Nursing Home to sing to the residents. We sang 8 songs and included some action songs where everyone was able to join in as well as some songs that the residents would have remembered from their early adulthood. The students enjoyed this experience. So much so, that they have asked to do it again!
Before going across to Corumbene, 2 Rush were asked to draw a portrait of themselves and write about some of the thoughts and feelings they were having. The following day the class was asked to write a recount of the event. Here are some pictures of our work.

Breakfast Club
The students at Fairview appreciate their free breakfast. A big thank you to Banjos New Norfolk, Woolworths New Norfolk, and Belle Parker Homes for your generous and continued support.

Hats on for Term 4
In term 1 and term 4 students are required to wear their school hat outside.
All students are given a new hat in Kindy then again in Grade 3. At the end of term 1 all hats are washed and returned to classrooms ready for term 4.
Please remind students they are not permitted to wear caps or non-school hats. If you child has accidently taken their hat home, please remind them to bring it back and leave it at school.
New school hats can be purchased from the office for $15.

Creative Artwork
These incredible clay artworks made a stunning impression at our recent Open Day exhibition. Each piece showcased the creativity and skill of our students, adding a vibrant and artistic touch to the event. Visitors were truly impressed by the detail and effort put into every sculpture, making the display one of the highlights of the day. We’re so proud to celebrate such talented young artists through this beautiful collection.

Garage Sale Trail
Garage Sale Trail is back in The Derwent Valley this November!
It’s a fun, feel-good community event that brings people together to buy, sell and reuse over two big weekends of garage sales and markets.
Garage Sale Trail is a great opportunity to:
● Raise funds – Many sellers make more than $1,000 in a single day.
● Encourage sustainability – Promote the circular economy, reuse and reducing waste.
● Build community – Connect with friends, neighbours and locals.
You choose the format – it could be a market stall, a group sale with friends, or a classic garage sale at home.
This year’s events will be held across The Derwent Valley and around the country on 8–9 and 15–16 November 2025.
It’s free to get involved, and Garage Sale Trail provides everything you need – from handy tips and tools to free promotional materials.
Have questions? Contact the team at Garage Sale Trail on contactus@garagesaletrail.com.au
We will help with promotion by sharing registered Sales on the Council Social media pages and website. If you have any ideas or need any support to get this up and running, please feel free to contact me.
