Principal Report
Dear Fairview community
It has been a really fantastic few weeks since our last newsletter. The highlight of this time was certainly ‘Book Week’ and although our parade is the big event for the week there are so many other things that go on throughout the week to lift the profile and joy of reading within our students and school. I have been really proud of seeing the way our older students have been representing the school in the Winter Sports roster, the way they have demonstrated the school values of togetherness and respect has been certainly visible.
It has been great to have Mr McArthur back on deck after a period of leave and we have also welcomed a new staff member in Mrs Maree who joins our leadership team and will be supporting our Literacy Priority. Next week we also welcome back Mrs Free from maternity leave who will be supporting our specialist program and class cover across the school for the remainder of the year.
Unfortunately, Fairview as well as other schools across the south of the state have been hit with a huge amount of sickness over the past few weeks, we are really looking forward to seeing students back into classes and into their learning as they recover.
As the term progresses, we have a focus on High School transition as well as a few staff taking blocks of leave, classes effected by this will be notified directly with the staffing arrangements.
I am looking forward to continuing our great learning for the remainder of the term.
David

Attendance Matters

Every school day matters for your child’s education. Absences are only authorised for reasons such as being unwell, or experiencing a significant event which impacts on your child’s ability to attend school.
It is important to communicate to your child’s school about the length and reason for any absences. Your child’s school may request further evidence or information in some circumstances.
Please see the link below on DECYP information on school attendance and absences.
It is an expectation that students attend for the whole school day 8:50am - 2:45pm.
Launching into Learning
In LiL we have been celebrating Book Week. In week 4, we visited the New Norfolk library and met Lizzie the Librarian. We were shown the books we were allowed to borrow and was encouraged to sign up. We explored the library, read many books, coloured, played, and ended our session with Rock & Rhyme. Last week, our Little Learners came dressed as their favourite book character and enjoyed completing art and craft activities 😊

1 Clements
This term Grade 1 have been exploring push and pull forces! Through fun hands-on activities, we discovered how objects move when we push or pull them. We started off thinking about what we already knew about forces and what we wanted to know. We explored the two forces in different ways, including experiments, like naming playdough and tug of war. We also displayed our knowledge through flip books and even creating our own push pull toys! We learned that forces can make things move, stop, or change direction. Lots of curious questions and great experimenting.

3/4A Thornton
In 3/4A, we have been investigating area and perimeter. We decided to brave the cold and do some hands-on learning by investigating the area of the basketball court. Students worked in small groups, using trundle wheels to gather the length of each side of the court, then had to multiply both sides to get the area. All students did a fantastic job of measuring the court and enjoyed the ability to participate in learning in a different environment.

5/6C Molesworth Excursion
Recently our class visited the Molesworth Environment Centre to investigate sustainability and management of our environment as part of our HASS unit. We learnt how First Nations people used what they found in nature to provide shelter, how to care for the landscape and maintain sustainable food sources by locating different types of seeds/plants. We practiced our mapping skills by identifying how the natural area had been altered and managed, such as roads, buildings, farm clearing and introduced crops. We also explored some fascinating natural landforms in the area (sandstone caves and waterfall), learning how they were created, what is causing the erosion, and modern methods to combat erosion after events such as flooding. The class had a great time exploring the surrounds, observing a range of birdlife, a visit from a curious pademelon and cooking some damper.

Art
Over a series of art lessons, Grade 1/2G created these beautiful watercolour landscapes. Each piece showcases the students’ creativity, focus and growing confidence with painting techniques.
While these artworks will eventually make their way home, they are so stunning that it’s very tempting to keep them for the classroom wall a little longer!

Robotics and Scratch
Josh has been excelling in Robotics and was able to explain the function of each line of code for his LEGO EV3 robot. This demonstrates a strong understanding of the functionality of the code created to operate the robot. Both the robot—a crane—and the code are quite advanced, and Josh developed them over a number of weeks during this term.
Clinton successfully completed a complex clicker-style game in Scratch. He designed and developed the entire game from scratch, creating all the sprites himself without using any of the built-in assets from the Scratch app.

Cooking
The students enjoyed making vanilla cupcakes. In every session, students actively develop important skills like food safety and teamwork. These focus areas align with the Fairview Primary School values and STAR expectations of ‘Safety’ and ‘Together’, guiding students to work safely and collaboratively in the kitchen.
