Principals Report
Welcome everyone to the ‘half-way’ point in Term 2. The weather has become cooler, and days are much shorter as we get close to the middle of our school year. Despite the cold and foggy starts, we are very lucky in the Derwent Valley to be supplied with lots of sunny afternoons to help us defrost! As this is the final newsletter piece I will write, I wanted to extend my sincere thanks to our whole school community – parents, friends, students, staff – for making me feel so welcome here at Fairview. I have thoroughly enjoyed my work with all those in the community and I look forward to hearing more about the school’s journey over the coming, weeks and months. Mr Webster will re-join after a well-earned holiday from Tuesday 10 June. It has been a joy to be a part of such a collaborative and supportive team and I wish the whole school community all the best as we make our way through the rest of 2025.
There have been many highlights over the 6 weeks I’ve been at Fairview, here are just a few.
- The painting of the mural on our school ball wall
- Establishment of our RESET Room to support wellbeing for learning
- The Day for Dolly celebrations
- A successful Cross-Country event
- Crazy Hair Day
- Seeing student’s love of learning…probably my favourite part!
Moderation and reporting
Friday 6 of June is Statewide Moderation Day where teachers will work across schools to ‘moderate’ student achievement against the Australian Curriculum to support consistent judgements when assigning a rating for English. Students have been working on Common Assessment Tasks with their class teachers to support this process. This allows for teachers to successfully assign ratings for reporting purposes and currently being undertaken by teachers across the state.
I’d like to wish everyone a happy and safe long weekend and we look forward to seeing students, staff and families back next week for an exciting second half of Term 2!

Kinder Burdon

In Kinder, we have begun focusing on Nursery Rhymes, beginning with 'If You're Happy and You Know It.' We made our own book version of the rhyme, as well as combining our new knowledge of the Zones of Regulation. Students first chose a zone, then identified an emotion that could be felt in that zone and provided their own action. We enjoyed reading our book as a class and are eager to make another. Scan the QR code to check it out! Watch this space for the next book in our series, ‘Teddy Bear, Teddy Bear,’ staring our very own teddies from home.
Happy reading!!
1 Clements
Grade 1 have been working on visualisation during our story times. We enjoyed reading the story 'Fred' during one of our lessons. We used our visualisation skills to reflect and break down the story into its beginning, middle and end. We used illustrations and writing to explain what our brains visualised during these parts of the story. We can't wait to visualise more during our story times.

Crazy hair day in Kinder and 1/2 Grierson
Students from Kinder Burdon and 1/2 Grierson looked amazing for Crazy hair/free dress day.
With all the classes at Fairview they helped raise over $200 for the School Association.

5/6A Judges

5/6 Judges have been working hard in recognition of National Sorry Day and National Reconciliation Week. During the week we have participated in activities to help us understand.
The theme ‘Bridging Now to Next’.

Art
Check out the wonderful whimsical birds created by our prep, grade 1 and grade 2 classes.
Displayed in our office art gallery, these spectacular pieces are there for parents to enjoy.

Cooking
These students have been working with Matt Hill- Student Wellbeing Officer, learning about reading and following recipes, then cooking delicious foods to eat.
Memphis cooking beef patties made by other students during the cooking session. Memphis led this session and demonstrated great teamwork, including sharing duties with other students.

Scratch
Scratch (coding) sessions held this term with Matt Hill - Student Wellbeing Officer.
It is good to see students assisting other students with coding exercises. A majority of students in these sessions are now deemed 'intermediate' due to being competent in both the basic skills of Scratch and able to produce a basic animation and game.
Hunter successfully completed building and coding a colour sensor for a LEGO EV3 robot. The colour sensor enables the robot to follow the black (or any coded colour) line.

Pre-Kinder Coming Soon!
Our pre-kinder program is beginning in term 3, on 25 July, for children born in 2021. The session will be held every Friday afternoon from 1:30-2:30pm in the Early Years Learning Centre.
The benefit of pre-kinder enables children to have the very best start at school. Our little learners are introduced to the kinder classroom, teacher, teacher assistant and friends who will be joining them. All learning is play-based and is provided within a supportive and inclusive environment.
If your child will be starting kindergarten in 2026, please contact the office your expression of interest and our pre-kinder teacher, Sarah Burdon will be in touch.
