Newsletter -4 November 2024
Principal
Dear Fairview community,
It has been a great start to the term with so many exciting opportunities occurring.
The highlights for me have been the grade 3-6 Swimming Carnival where there was great participation and students supporting each other using our STAR value of ‘togetherness’ through the events. On Friday we have our interschool swimming carnival with a full contingent of students representing the school, I have great confidence they will represent Fairview with pride.
There have been two excursions over the past fortnight where I have received really positive feedback from the public and the operators of both Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery and Bounce around how great our groups were. This always makes me feel a strong sense of joy.
Last Friday we had our yearly Disco with a Halloween theme, a massive thanks to our School Association volunteers and staff that made it such a success and of course the parents for getting their kids ready in such great outfits. The costumes, decorations, dancing and music were all amazing and I am looking forward to seeing the photos.
We have a lot of activities coming up between now and the end of year so please keep an eye out for notices and dates around these.
I look forward to the rest of term 4 being just as positive.
David

Attendance Matters
Kindergarten Enrolments
Enrolments are now open for Kindergarten 2025 for students that were born in 2020.
To enrol please contact the school office to collect enrolment forms.
Kinder Burdon
Last week, Kinder students were bubbling with excitement for Halloween. To target their interest, we completed some hands-on Halloween themed activities. Students completed a STEM challenge to build a spider, using playdough, pipe cleaners and googly eyes. White and black crayons were used to draw ghosts and students verbally shared something that scares them; and lastly, we put our prediction skills to the test and considered what would happen when we mixed bi-carb soda, white vinegar and food colouring to our cauldrons. It was a lot of fun testing our theories and observing the result.
3/4 Graham
3/4 Graham were experimenting with force. We figured out that if we blew really hard through the straw it would cause a push force and make the ghost (tissue) fly really high in the air. If we kept blowing through the straw under the ghost, it would continue flying around!
5/6 Luttrell
We have been starting to explore the objects in our solar system in science this term. We have begun by making a few scale models of our solar system to show how far apart the planets are as well as making an interactive display with facts about the Sun.
Remembrance Day
A beautiful display in our 5/6 corridor.
Art
Students from Prep to Grade 2 celebrated Spring by printing blossoms. They used cotton buds and bunches of old pencils to make the flowers
Swimming Carnival
On Wednesday the 23rd of October a group of students from grades 3-6 participated in the Swimming Carnival at Clarence Aquatic Centre. Congratulations to everyone who tried and had a go.

Home Reading
The students pictured below have reached the incredible achievement of reading for 100 nights at home. Congratulations!
Your dedication to reading for 100 nights is a remarkable achievement, and we’re delighted to support your continued literacy journey. As a token of our appreciation, we were excited to award you a special Free Book Prize! The students were able to choose a book that ‘called’ to them.
Keep turning those pages and exploring new worlds. We look forward to celebrating more milestones with you in the future!
Happy Reading!
Parent Help Welcome
Covid restrictions are over and there is no reason why Parent Help cannot return to our classrooms at Fairview Primary School.
We understand that many parents have work commitments or other life events that prevent them from spending time in their child’s classroom.
However, if your days are somewhat flexible and you are brave enough to give a little of your time, we would love to have you actively participating in your child’s classroom.
If you would like to be Parent Help in your child’s classroom, please fill out the Parent Help Form.
Please Note: Prior to commencing Parent Help, DECYP require all volunteers to hold a current Working With Vulnerable Persons Card Working With Vulnerable Persons Card, complete DECYP’s Safeguarding Training, and undertake an onsite Safety Induction on the first day of volunteering at the school.
If you require assistance applying for a WWVP card, accessing the Safeguarding Training, or just want some more information please reach out to Malcolm McArthur malcolm.mcarthur@decyp.tas.gov.au or phone 6261 7999.
Please see the links below.
Water Bottles
Please remind students to pack a full bottle of water every day for school.
The water fountains may be used by students.
Halloween Disco
On Friday afternoon after school 2 Halloween Discos were held in our school hall.
We have a small but dedicated and hard-working fundraising group who went above and beyond to organise and set up the discos. Thank you from the staff and students to these amazing parents.
We hope you enjoy looking at some photos from the K-2 and 3-6 discos.
