Principal
Dear Fairview Community,
The term is quickly drawing to an end and although we had a sneak peek of some better weather, Tasmania never fails to surprise with presenting “four seasons in one day”.
We have a few staffing departures that I would like to share with our community. Peter Abel our groundsman is taking on a new exciting challenge after more than 30 years working at Fairview. I know there are many students, parents and grandparents that Peter has been involved with through their connection with the school. I would like to thank him sincerely for all his work and contribution to the community. Gina Campbell one of our wonderful Teacher Assistants is also taking on a new opportunity and I have personally seen the fantastic support she provides our students and staff. I wish them all the best for their future endeavours.
It has been a really positive last month at Fairview with our students always representing themselves and our school through demonstrating our STAR values and expectations. Our school is having a real focus on recognising this positive behaviour whenever we see it. Recently we had a Terrapin Puppet Theatre performance where the feedback from the performers were that our students were a fantastic audience and were incredibly respectful and joyful whilst enjoying the production.
Thank you to all parents and families that came to our open afternoon yesterday that provided the opportunity to share ‘Evidence of Learning’ and further build connections between school and home.
Next Friday we have our Footy (sports) Colours Day and specific information will be provided about that day through our communication channels. We have also received information that the New Norfolk Pool will be out of action for much of Term 4. We have made alternative arrangements for our 3-6 Swimming Carnival which will be held at Clarence Pool, however, unfortunately due to the uncertainty we will need to cancel our early years swimming program that usually occurs for one week later in the term.
To finish this newsletter piece, please remember to be safe, sensible and patient in our car parks. One of the biggest risks to children is around roads and vehicles. I look forward to a great last week of term and wish everyone a safe and relaxing break.
David

Prep Hammer
In Prep Hammer we continue to practice our blending, our noticing digraphs in words when we see them in text, and ‘pounding the sound’ to support our reading. We play with words and change sounds to make new words which supports us becoming confident readers, writers and problem solvers. Here are some photos of students practicing some of the things they have learned.
2 Thornton
Recently Grade 2T & 1/2 Rush were lucky enough to attend an excursion to the new Bridgewater Bridge Project.
Whilst on our excursion, we got to experience a presentation about all the planning and work that goes into building the new Bridgewater Bridge. After engaging in some activities, we then boarded the buses and were guided on a drive through the precast facility to experience how the supports for the bridge are made.
Then we travelled to the new bridge to see its development which was a massive hit with the students. So many great questions were being asked.
Overall, the day was a success with the students, and it was a great opportunity to build students interests and knowledge of construction and engineering. We may even have some future engineers of our own in 2T.
5-6 Bradshaw
This week in 5/6 Bradshaw we have been investigating how we can be 'bucket fillers' for those around us. After brainstorming different ways we could fill another person's well-being bucket, we undertook an experiment by saying kind and unkind words to an apple. The apple was cut open to reveal its 'feelings', the result found that the apple that had kind words, had a clean, crisp flesh whereas the apple that was told unkind words, had a bruised interior, despite an unblemished exterior. We could then use and apply this and be thoughtful of the words we use to each other.
Home Reading
The students pictured below have reached the incredible achievement of reading for 100 nights at home. Congratulations!
Your dedication to reading for 100 nights is a remarkable achievement, and we’re delighted to support your continued literacy journey. As a token of our appreciation, we were excited to award you a special Free Book Prize! The students were able to choose a book that ‘called’ to them.
Keep turning those pages and exploring new worlds. We look forward to celebrating more milestones with you in the future!
Happy Reading!
Parent Help Welcome
Covid restrictions are over and there is no reason why Parent Help cannot return to our classrooms at Fairview Primary School.
We understand that many parents have work commitments or other life events that prevent them from spending time in their child’s classroom.
However, if your days are somewhat flexible and you are brave enough to give a little of your time, we would love to have you actively participating in your child’s classroom.
If you would like to be Parent Help in your child’s classroom, please fill out the Parent Help Form.
Please Note: Prior to commencing Parent Help, DECYP require all volunteers to hold a current Working With Vulnerable Persons Card Working With Vulnerable Persons Card, complete DECYP’s Safeguarding Training, and undertake an onsite Safety Induction on the first day of volunteering at the school.
If you require assistance applying for a WWVP card, accessing the Safeguarding Training, or just want some more information please reach out to Malcolm McArthur malcolm.mcarthur@decyp.tas.gov.au or phone 6261 7999.
