Newsletter -16 May 2024
From The Principal
Dear Fairview Community,
It has been a positive (but busy!) start to the term. I wanted to start my newsletter article by announcing that we have just found out we have been the recipient of a $250,000 grant to help upgrade our playground facilities in our North playground. The specifics of how this will be spent will be worked through with students, community, and staff input. I would like to thank Chloe Bonnitcha our school business manager for undertaking the work to secure this grant. In sadder news, Chloe is taking on a new position closer to home and I want to sincerely thank her for her work over the past few years at Fairview.
So far this term we have had programs around road safety and for our grade 5/6s the Growing up program. With road safety week last week, it is important to remind our community about safe practices, including wearing seatbelts, driving safely around our school, and paying attention to pedestrians.
Last week Fairview had the Principals and School Leaders from the Derwent Valley to undertake what is known as ‘instructional rounds’ which is to observe our classes and provide feedback around our teaching of reading. This was a really positive experience for all involved and the feedback from the observers was what a calm, orderly environment they observed.
With colder weather approaching we have noticed more sickness throughout our school community which has included both students and staff. Unfortunately, with nationwide teacher shortages at times we have had to shift specialist classes or have students attend different classes for the day. When this has happened all in our school community has understood and ensured a positive learning experience for our students.
We have a number of events happening over the coming weeks including our cross-country carnival (specific information will be provided via Schoolzine), National Simultaneous Story time and a Fire Safety program.
I look forward to a great term.
David

Health and Sickness
Please let the office know if there are any changes to your child's health.
Students who are away for 5 days or more require a doctor's certificate.
If your child has been diagnosed with Asthma or Anaphylaxis, please see your doctor for an up-to-date Management plan for 2024 and provide a copy to the office.
Asthma and Anaphylaxis can be life threatening. Providing this valuable information can assist us in helping your child.
ANZAC Day
Thursday the 25th April, two of our student leaders, Molly and Hailey, represented Fairview Primary, and paid their respect to the fallen at the ANZAC Day service in New Norfolk.
1 Best
We had a great visit from the RACT, who taught Grade 1 Best about road safety and we were able to investigate their service van.
3/4 Free
In 3/4 Free we have been enjoying learning about the reading strategy of visualising. We have been enjoying drawing pictures to show our visual representation of our texts.
5/ 6Luttrell
In 5/6Luttrell, we have been completing some projects on personal interests. Students have chosen to continue their work in Science and Art and create some posters on something that interests them. Enjoy.

Drink Bottles
Even through the cooler weather students should bring a full water bottle to school every day to keep hydrated.
Government Grant Approved
School Association
The School Association worked extremely hard on purchasing and wrapping wonderful Mother's Day which children were able to purchase last week. We did not make a huge profit as the aim was to provide a valuable service affordable to all students.
All parents/ carers are automatically School Association members and are welcome to attend meetings as an observer. We currently have 2 positions available for parents/carers to join the Association as a Committee member. Please phone the office on 6261 7999 or pick up a form from the office if you are interested.
If you would like to put your name down to assist with fundraising activities, please let the office know. To assist at school, you will need to show your WWVPC and complete the Mandatory Reporting training.
Meeting dates: 19th June 31st July 11th Sept 23rd October
