From The Principal
Dear Fairview Community,
This week is Teacher Assistant Appreciation week, I want to sincerely thank all of the amazing TA’s we have at Fairview Primary, the support they provide for our students is incredible and means that the students are able to achieve great things. Thank you for all that you do!
I was really proud over the past week to have such a successful ‘Book Week’, it was not just the opportunity for our students (and staff!) to have the fun dressing up on the parade day but the fantastic learning opportunities that occurred throughout the week. Having a Tasmanian author – Anne Morgan visit the school and share her journey, her skills around writing and inspiring our young readers as well as the opportunity for students to make a creative response to the shortlisted Book Week books were certainly highlights.
This week we are starting a new ‘enrichment program’ where students can opt in to an afternoon session once a week around an area of interest. Some of the opportunities students have to engage in are computer skills (coding and typing), basketball, origami, choir and garden (just to name a few!). It has also been fantastic to see our grade 5/6 students competing in the winter sports activities over this term, they have definitely shown the STAR values throughout their play and have been improving their team work and skills. An early ‘heads up’ that next term is busy with sporting activities with learn to swim, our swimming carnival and athletics carnivals all taking place. Information forms for swimming for grades 3-6 will be provided in a few week’s time.
Currently, the Department for Education, Children and Young People has a number of surveys that are provided to families, students and staff around wellbeing and school satisfaction. Our family survey’s have been shared via ‘Class Dojo’ but if you haven’t received the link please contact the office for information on how to complete the survey.
I am really grateful for the contribution that our community makes to the school, this is really evident in such things as the ‘Father’s Day Stall’ that has been co-ordinated by our School Associations fundraising committee, the work that these volunteers put in is really valued and appreciated. Keep an eye out for information around our School Association Disco.
In weeks 8 and 9 this term we will once again have our open afternoons for families to come in and chat with our teachers and see their children’s work.
Finally I would like to put a call out to our community to let us know of any new ‘in area’ kinder enrolments for 2024 (children turning 5 in 2024). Our 2024 class structure is currently being developed and the more accurate information we have around this the better.
3/4 Rose and 3/4 Free Bunnings Excursion
3/4 Rose and 3/4 Free had an amazing excursion to Bunnings warehouse. They had the opportunity to choose and mix paint, choose and plant flowers and paint their own pots. They spent a bit of their time making sure Ms Graham didn’t walk off and purchase things! Mrs Bone bought her green thumb and helped the students plant their flowers through the week so they could take them home.

School Association- Fundraising
The Fundraising Committee have once again worked very hard in bringing together a very successful Fathers Day gift stall. There were many amazing gifts for students to choose from. Our volunteers were very impressed with the manners of our students showing their best Star behaviour.
As the saying go "Many Hands Make Light Work" and our volunteers all showed their Star qualities too.

Updated link for School Lunch Parent Survey
As part of the School Lunch Project, children are receiving free cooked lunches on some days each week. To help better understand the benefits and challenges of providing cooked school lunches, researchers from the University of Tasmania are interested in hearing feedback from parents and caregivers in Term 3. You are invited to complete a short survey. Every parent who completes a survey will go in the draw to win a $20 Visa/Mastercard voucher. We are also conducting discussion groups/interviews with parents and caregivers which will be held at the school, you can express your interest in taking part in the discussion group at the link. Every person who takes part will receive a $50 voucher for participation. We will be at Fairview Primary for interviews and discussion groups on the 6th of September.
