From The Principal
Dear Fairview Community,
There are clear signs of spring in the air with some lovely weather in recent weeks. It has been heartening to see such amazing learning happening across the school especially in the focus area of reading. Many of our students have recently been recognised for their engagement with home reading and received certificates for the nights they have read, these students should certainly be proud of this achievement. If you have engaged with our Facebook page you will have noticed lots of examples of fantastic learning happening within our classes and as extra-curricula activities.
Last week a number of our year 2 students contributed to National Tree Planting Day by planting trees on site. Also earlier this week I was fortunate to be able to attend the rehearsals for the combined schools band at the Derwent Entertainment Centre. The growth of our music students in this program, across the course of the year, has been amazing. Especially so through their efforts over the two day rehearsal. I cannot wait to hear what the performance sounds like at the end of the year. On Friday we have the combined school Sassafras Band performing at Fairview for our students which will be a great opportunity for all students to see something they may wish to be part of in future years.
This term our pre-kinder program has started, this is a great program for students beginning kinder next year to help them feel more comfortable about engaging with schooling and getting to know our staff and programs. If you know anybody that is in the Fairview zone and turning five in 2024, please encourage them to engage with this program and let the school know of their intention to enrol.
In week 5 (a week and a half away) we have book week, with the parade on Wednesday 23rd, parents and carers are invited to attend please see further in this newsletter for more details.
For our grade 4 to 6 students the yearly wellbeing survey will be conducted later this term. This provides a snapshot for the school to see how our students wellbeing is tracking, areas of strength but also areas we may be able to focus on to improve. Specific information for students in those year groups will be provided.
I look forward to a great term ahead.
David
Every School Day Matters.
Are you making every school day count?
It’s Term 3 already – welcome back for another term!
As we move through the school year, sometimes regular school attendance can be challenging.
It’s important your child keeps up good attendance habits though.
Going to school every day means your child has every chance to learn, and be around their friends and teachers. Every day adds up, to benefit your child now and in the future.
If you’re having trouble getting your child to school, please talk to us. We’ll listen to your situation, and help in any way we can.
If you’re looking for tips on how to create better attendance habits, visit the Anything can happen website.
Bike & Scooter Safety
It’s fantastic to see so many students from Fairview taking advantage of the nice weather we are experiencing, and riding their bicycles or scooters to and from school.
Please remind your child to always ride safely and respectfully to school, especially making sure they wear a helmet, being aware of other road users and pedestrians using footpaths as they ride to school.
Students also wear the school uniform and we encourage them to continue representing our school in a positive way, displaying our school values, as they travel to and from school.’
Just a friendly reminder that Bikes & Scooters aren’t to be ridden on school grounds for safety of our other students and parents.
School Lunch Program
As part of the School Lunch Project, children are receiving free cooked lunches on some days each week. To help better understand the benefits and challenges of providing cooked school lunches, researchers from the University of Tasmania are interested in hearing feedback from parents and caregivers in Term 3. You are invited to complete a short survey. Every parent who completes a survey will go in the draw to win a $20 Visa/Mastercard voucher. We are also conducting discussion groups/interviews with parents and caregivers which will be held at the school, you can express your interest in taking part in the discussion group at the link. Every person who takes part will receive a $50 voucher for participation.
If you would like to participate, please follow this link:

We thank you in advance for your participation!
5/6 Bradshaw
In 5/6 Bradshaw we have been focussing on our building our reading skills through rotation work such as reading summaries, vocabulary building, comprehension skills and re-tell responses.
3/4 Seen-Bromell
Fish tanks
This activity involved making 3D fish tanks or aquariums. The students approached this activity with great enthusiasm.
Naidoc Week Poster
The aim of this activity was for the students to work together to produce a large art piece. Each student completed one or more pieces of work which were then put together. The result was very effective.
3/4 O'Brien
We have been learning about writing and following procedures. 3/4 OB were given instructions to make a pirate hat (one group was given pictures, another group just the written instructions) We had to follow the procedure as closely as we could, making sure we didn't miss any steps, or else our hats would end up looking a bit funny! Everyone had a blast comparing their hats to each other and learning to follow a procedure by ourselves.
Music- Band
On Monday the 7th and Tuesday the 8th Band students from Fairview Primary School joined their peers at Mystate Bank Arena to learn songs that they will be playing in a concert later on in the year.
It was two big days focusing on music with many smiles and beautiful sounds made by all.
Art Landscapes Prep-1
Preps and Grade 1's enjoyed making some landscapes based upon the samples currently displayed around the room for the upper grades. Amazing observational skills Prep Ones.
Art Watercolour Paints Prep - 1
PGH, P1J and 1BT had fun using getting creative by using watercolours to create these amazing artworks.
Art Landscapes in Grades 3-6
Grades 3-6 have been working on elements of landscapes. They practiced painting trees without using brushes. These were done using cling wrap for the leaves and wooden knives for the trunks.
Art Fireworks grades 3-6
Everyone celebrated Cracker Night with explosions of colour in the dark. Grades 3-6 used oil pastels and included horizons and reflections. Grade 2 used wooden knives to print their starbursts while Prep and Grade 1 stamped their explosions using pipe cleaners
NAIDOC WEEK
