School Student Broadband Initiative
From the Principal
Dear Fairview Community,
As is normally the case the term seems to be really flying by. We have been really busy this term with the below all running very successfully.
- Growing Up Program
- Student Voice Opportunities through our Student Leaders engaging with the Derwent Valley Council
- Dolly’s Dream Fundraiser
- National Simultaneous Story Time – Speedy Sloth
- School Lunch Program Extending to 2 days a week
- Cross Country (and interschool team selected) – with our Sports Leaders doing an amazing job supporting the event and student participation.
- Mother’s Day Fundraising – I wish to particularly thank the school association and fundraising sub-committee for all their hard work on delivering such a great outcome for the school and supporting our kids and families on such a special occasion.
Over the next five weeks the main focus will be reporting. This includes our Kinder Development Check 1, Prep-6 reporting against the Australian Curriculum on a 9-point scale, reporting against learning goals for students with individualised learning plans, and conducting parent teacher meetings in week 9.
We will be welcoming a new addition to our teaching team from week 7 with Mrs Stacey Aldous joining us on Tuesdays to support our HPE program.
Coming up the school is engaging with the Salvation Army Volunteer Reading Program beginning in term 3. It should be noted that the Department for Education, Children and Young People is now requiring all volunteers on site to undertake mandatory reporting training and this is something that we will introduce as part of our volunteer induction processes.
A few key reminders, we have had a slight drop in our attendance over the last few weeks and although it may be cold/windy outside if students are feeling well the best place for them to succeed in their learning is being in the classroom. Also please remember it is vital to ensure safe driving practices in and around the school grounds to ensure the safety of all in our school community.

SZapp Update
There is a new version of SZapp available for Android and IOS Devices. Please ensure that you have updated to this version to assure you receive communications from the school. After updating, you will also need the pin 3765 to subscribe to Fairview Primary School.
If you are using an Android Device, you will need to uninstall the old app and install the new version.
IOS Devices (iPhones) will be able to update without requiring a re-install.
We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause, but we are confident that the improvements in the new version will make it worth it.
An online guide on how to install and register/login to SZapp is available on the Schoolzine Website here:
Click here to view the Installation Instructionshttps://www.schoolzine.com/szapp-installation
If you experience any difficulties with completing this process, please reach out to Schoolzine using support@schoolzine.com . To assist with your query, they ask that you provide a description of the issue you are facing, the email address you are using when facing this issue and a screenshot of the issue.
2MT & 2R - Food & Fibre
Year 2 students have been exploring 'Food and Fibre' as part of our Heath unit. The cohort was lucky enough to take part in a paddock to plate experience. They participated in the process of making lamb sausages.
Students minced, filled, and tied collagen skins to produce a sausage which we then cooked and ate.
Thank you to Tom Shoobridge from Cleveland Pastoral Estates for coming in and facilitating this wonderful experience.
Attendance
If your child is absent from school. Please remember to do the following.
Student Absence due to: sickness / holiday / other reason | Please complete the SZapp absentee form or phone the school office on 6261 7999 by 9:00am. |
Late Arrival | Please make sure your child signs in at the school office Kiosk if they arrive to school after 9:00am |
Early Departure | Parents/carers are to sign students out at the school office Kiosk if they are leaving school prior to 2:45pm. |
Lost Property - Please put a name on it!
Please ensure all school uniform items, lunch box containers and drink bottles are clearly named with your child’s name. If you purchase a second-hand item, please remember to rename the item with your child’s name. If lost property comes to the office with a name we are able to get it back to the right student.
We have a large tub of lost propert without names in the office. If you are missing an item, please feel free to come and check.
Buddy Classes
As part of a Positive Behaviour Support approach, we have incorporated buddy classes again, these will continue for the rest of the Year.
Buddy classes promote a sense of community and belonging in our school. They increase positive social interactions and appropriate play among children in the classroom and outside in the playground.
Below are some images of our buddy classes catching up for some learning activities and some fun.

Art
Prep and grade 1 enjoyed mixing secondary colours using playdough. It was very exciting watching two primary-coloured pieces merge to become a new colour and recording the results.
In the art room we have been discussing techniques to create the illusion of depth in our landscapes. Here are some of the scrapbook entries showing how to use the Here, Near and Far planes to show perspective from all grades from Prep to 6.
Last term Grade 5/6 created amazing self-portraits showing 'The Real You'.

HOW DO I APPLY FOR RWVP?
- Complete the online application form. This is available from the website below
Choose Department of Education from the organisation drop down box.
