Principals Address
Thank you to all members of our Fairview Primary School Community for the efforts that you are making with Covid safe behaviours when at school. Masks are still required from the school gate for all adults, except those with a medical exemption. Prep – Year Two pick up at the end of the day has now settled into a quick and orderly routine. We thank you for your support of our move away from having families wait at the end of the day near the small space outside 3-4G’s classroom. We ask that all parents and carers connect to our Schoolzine App as this will provide you with the latest updates re health and wellbeing at school.
Swimming and Water Safety
Our Year 3-5 students (and some Year 6s receiving extra tuition) have been travelling daily to the New Norfolk Pool to take part in Swimming and Water Safety sessions. After a windy first day, students have had some warm weather and enjoyed the opportunity to gain new skills in the water. This program will conclude on Friday, 4 March.
Athletics Trials for Inter Primary Carnival
The Southern Primary School Sports Association (SPSSA) are, at this stage, planning to run the annual Inter Primary Athletics Carnival at the Domain. The carnival will be run without spectators and there will be changes to student seating and event organisation to support COVID safe behaviours. As this carnival is scheduled for Week 6, we will be running athletics time trials for students in Years 3 – 6 in their Physical Education lessons this week, weather permitting. This will identify a team to represent Fairview Primary at the SPSSA event As yet, we have not scheduled our Year 3-6 Athletics Carnival as, under current COVID guidelines, it is not possible to hold this prior to the end of Week 5.
School Association - Notice of Annual General Meeting
Notice is hereby given that the Annual General Meeting of the Fairview Primary School Association will be held on Wednesday 23 March from 3.30pm. At this stage, the meeting is planned to take place in the School Hall. If attending, please let the School Office know by Tuesday 22 March at 9am. This will ensure that Covid safe planning can be maintained for this event. Unfortunately, child care will not be provided.
While all parents/carers with children at Fairview are School Association members and welcome to attend and observe meetings, Committee members must be nominated and elected. Elections will occur if there are more nominees than required for vacancies.
In 2022, positions vacant on the Fairview Primary School Association Committee are:
Two parent member vacancies on the Committee. Positions are for a period of 2 years (2022/2023)
Two staff member vacancies on the Committee. Positions are for 2 years. (2022/2023)
Two community member vacancies on the Committee. Positions are for a period of 2 years. (2022/2023) Community members seeking to join the School Association must table a letter stating why they would like to join which will be presented at the meeting.

If there are more nominations than vacancies, an election for staff and parent representatives will be held on Monday 21 March and Tuesday 22 March by voting slip to be returned to the School Office. Parents will vote for parents and staff will vote for staff, as per the Fairview Primary School Association Constitution.
Back River Road Carpark
A reminder that the boom gate for the carpark on Back River Road is closed between 8:15 & 9am each morning and again at 2:30 & 3pm each afternoon while the school crossing is in use. If you need to pick your child up during these times, please park in the back car park at North Crescent. If the gate is closed while you are in the carpark, you will need to wait until it is reopened to exit.
Welcoming Ms Susie Best
My name is Susie Best, and I am very happy to be returning to Fairview Primary School after six years teaching at schools in Hobart. While Mrs Thomas is on leave, I will be sharing the Grade 2 class with Miss McDonald. Prior to leaving, I had been teaching at Fairview Primary for twelve years which I enjoyed thoroughly.
The Fairview staff and community have been extremely welcoming, and I am looking forward to meeting parents/carers of students in Grade 2 McDonald/Thomas.
Nurse Beck
My name is Rebecca and I am the new School Health Nurse at Fairview Primary School. I will be working on Wednesdays.
Interestingly School Health Nurses don’t do any first aid within schools, we have a strong health education focus and work to improve the long-term health and wellbeing of the children within our school community. I will spend much of my time getting to know your children, building relationships, completing Kindergarten health assessments, targeted vision and hearing assessments and working with students to promote health to improve learning outcomes.
If you would like to speak with me, I can be contacted through the school office. If I am unable to help you with your query, I will likely be able to refer you to someone who can. I look forward to meeting you all and becoming part of the school community.
Hand Washing Tips
Washing our hands with good old soap and water is a simple and effective way to way to prevent the spread of gastrointestinal and respiratory infections in community settings. Chat to your children about the key times they should wash their hands.
And although we do it all the time, here is a just a little reminder of how to wash our hands to get rid of the most germs and keep us safe! See https://youtu.be/PoHhtIwajGU for a short video demonstration
- WET your hands with warm, running water
- RUB soap all over your hands for 20 seconds (its longer than you think)
- RINSE the soap off your hands
- DRY your hands with a clean towel or paper towel or under a hand dryer
Rapid Antigen Tests
We have plenty of RAT packs available at the office. Please come to the office if you require more. If you or your child are unwell with symptoms, please follow public health guidelines and obtain the RAT from the testing sites. More tests will be available to take home once your child has returned to school without symptoms.
2022 Levies
A reminder the 2022 levies are now due. Please pay these to the office or by bpay as soon as possible. Please be mindful if your child has changed schools or you have other children at other schools that you are paying the correct invoice for the correct child/school.
