From the Principal
Hello Families
Nearly half-way through Term 4 already! Thank you to all those families who are supporting their children by ensuring they have plenty to drink and are dressed appropriately for this warmer weather.
2023 Classes: Thank you to all those families who returned their forms regarding class composition. We are in the process of finalising class placements and students’ final class placements for 2023 will be communicated to families over the next few weeks.
End of Year Reports: Fairview’s end of year reports will be sent home to parents by the end of Week 9. Fairview staff will be following the Department’s requirements for reporting, which are below:
- Kindergarten: celebration of learning
- Reporting using the new 9-point scale for learning progress
- Prep: English, Mathematics and Science
- Years 1 – 6: English, Mathematics, Science and HASS
- Learning areas not reported against the 9-point scale will use a worded descriptor.
- Students on a Learning Plan or not assessed against an Australian Curriculum learning area will have their progress reported against their individual learning plan goals using the Learning Plan Continuum.
- No written comments for any of the above.
External School Review:
Our last School Review in August had to be abandoned due to staff illness. The Review has been re-scheduled for Tuesday 22nd and Wednesday 23rd of November. A letter will be sent home with your child today with more information and advising how families can participate.
If families have any questions regarding reporting, please contact me via the School Office.
As always, please do not hesitate to contact me with any concerns, questions or ideas to share.
Best wishes,
Michelle Waldock
Acting Principal

Subway Lunch Orders
Subway orders are due back by 10am tomorrow. Please ensure the correct money is enclosed in the envelope as no change can be given. We are unable to accept late orders.
Drink Bottles
The weather is now warming up and many students are coming to the office for a cup because they are not bringing drink bottles to school. We are still unable to use the water fountains so please remind your child to always bring a drink bottle.
3/4 Hills/Bromell & Ackerley Excursion
The 3/4 HB and 3/ 4 A excursion focused around ecosystems and how the tiniest things can have a big impact. Students practiced teamwork skills to design and construct apparatus to help animals after bushfire until the ecosystem in that area recovers. Students made animal bridges, baths, bush medicine concoctions, animal hospitals and shelters. Students walked through bushland and used identi-kits to identify mini-beasts and also larger animal scats. They then had the opportunity to examine pond life including back-swimmers and tadpoles.
5/6 Desire Poetry
In 5/6 Desire we have begun to explore different styles of poetry. We especially liked creating Shape Poems because they do not have rules on the amount of words, lines, verses, syllables or rhymes that are needed. All we needed to do was describe a familiar object and write it in the shape of the object.
First, we created some together we were inspired by an apple, the moon and a storm cloud. Some of us went on the create more shape poems using our favourite objects like avacaodos, watermelons, rainbows and basketballs. We're all very proud of our work. Come and check it out on display in the 5/6 corridor. We hope you like them.
