Newsletter - 25 August 2022
From the Principal
Hello Families
Halfway through Term 3 already! Staff and students are deeply immersed in this term’s learning. Staff are focussed on unpacking the concept of Metacognition, one of our school priorities for 2022. Staff have agreed on the following definition of metacognition:
“Metacognition is the awareness and process of monitoring, managing and evaluating our understanding of our thinking. We create learning goals, plan ways to achieve them and choose strategies to solve problems. Metacognition is best developed through explicit teaching and structured practice of metacognitive strategies and facilitates independent, life-long learners. “
Staff will continue to unpack the concept with students over the next term and a half.
Book Week: What a wonderful Book Week Parade we had on Wednesday! Students and staff looked fantastic in their costumes, and it was a pleasure to welcome back families to an event at school. Thank you to Ms Harback for organising the Parade and thank you to families who supported their child by attending the event and/or organising a costume. Please see photos of the event later in the Newsletter.
As part of Book Week, we are holding a Book Fair in the Early Years space. The Book Fair is open before and after school. I encourage families to come along and buy a book (or two) to support our school. Reading is the most important life skill anyone can have and spending time to read with your child will foster a lifelong love of reading.
Student Wellbeing Survey: The wellbeing of all students at Fairview is important to us. When young people feel safe, connected, and secure, they are more likely to engage in their learning.
This survey forms part of the Department’s Wellbeing for Learning - Child and Student Wellbeing Strategy. It helps us get a picture of the current wellbeing of our students, and what we can do to improve future wellbeing. The more students who take part, the clearer our picture will be.
Fairview students in Grades 4-6 will take part in the survey this term. More detailed information will be sent home with students next week. Any questions about the survey please contact the School Office.
External School Review: Fairview’s 4-yearly School Review had to be paused earlier this term as so many staff were absent with illness. This Review has been re-scheduled for Tuesday 22nd and Wednesday 23rd November. All parents are welcome to come and share their opinions with the Review panel. More information will be sent home with students closer to the date.
As always, please do not hesitate to contact me with any concerns, questions or ideas to share.
Best wishes,
Michelle Waldock
